Ingredients
Scale
Base Ingredients
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup black sesame paste (sweetened or unsweetened)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 (10-ounce) bag mini marshmallows
- 6 cups crispy rice cereal
Topping
- 2 tablespoons toasted black sesame seeds
Instructions
- Prepare the Pan: Grease a 9×9-inch baking pan with butter or non-stick spray to prevent sticking, and set it aside for later.
- Melt Butter and Mix Sesame Paste: In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter. Stir in the black sesame paste and salt, mixing continuously until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
- Add Marshmallows: Add the mini marshmallows to the saucepan, stirring constantly until they are fully melted and incorporated into the sesame butter mixture, creating a glossy, sticky base.
- Combine with Rice Cereal: Remove the saucepan from heat and quickly fold in the crispy rice cereal. Stir gently but thoroughly to coat all the cereal evenly with the marshmallow mixture.
- Press into Pan: Transfer the coated cereal mixture into the prepared pan. Using a spatula or lightly greased hands, press the mixture firmly and evenly to ensure it holds together when set.
- Add Toppings: Sprinkle the toasted black sesame seeds over the top of the pressed mixture. Gently press them into the surface so they adhere well.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the treats to cool at room temperature for at least 1 hour so they can firm up. Once cooled, slice into 16 squares and serve.
Notes
- For a nuttier flavor, add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract or a splash of toasted sesame oil to the melted butter and sesame paste mixture.
- Use unsweetened black sesame paste if you prefer a less sweet dessert.
- Toasting the black sesame seeds enhances their flavor and adds crunch.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
