Ingredients
Scale
Dough
- 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg, room temperature
Filling
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup cherry pie filling, chopped if large pieces
Frosting
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, granulated sugar, yeast, and salt. Add warm milk, melted butter, and egg and mix until incorporated. Gradually add the remaining flour until a soft, workable dough forms. Knead on a lightly floured surface for 6 to 8 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Shape and Fill Rolls: Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a 14×9-inch rectangle. Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough. In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle this mixture evenly over the butter. Evenly spoon and gently spread the cherry pie filling over the cinnamon sugar layer. Starting from the long side, roll the dough tightly into a log, then cut it into 12 equal rolls. Arrange the rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for 30 to 40 minutes until puffy.
- Bake the Rolls: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25 to 30 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
- Make the Frosting: While the rolls are baking, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract, mixing until creamy and well combined.
- Frost and Serve: Spread the cream cheese frosting over the warm rolls before serving to enjoy the perfect blend of sweet and tangy flavors.
Notes
- Ensure the milk is warm but not hot to prevent killing the yeast.
- For extra cherry flavor, add 1/2 teaspoon almond extract to the filling.
- Store leftover rolls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
