Jello Mixtures
- 1 package (3 oz) red jello mix (strawberry, cherry, or raspberry)
- 1 package (3 oz) green jello mix (lime)
- 1 cup hot water (divided)
Coating and Mix-ins
- 1 1/2 cups crushed vanilla wafers or graham crackers, divided
- 1 cup shredded sweetened coconut, divided
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for coating)
Instructions
- Prepare Red Jello Mixture: Dissolve the red jello mix in 1/2 cup of hot water by stirring until fully dissolved. Let it cool slightly but not set.
- Prepare Green Jello Mixture: Similarly, dissolve the green jello mix in the remaining 1/2 cup of hot water. Stir well and let cool slightly.
- Combine Coating Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine 3/4 cup of crushed vanilla wafers or graham crackers with 1/2 cup of shredded sweetened coconut.
- Create Red Jello Balls: Pour the cooled red jello mixture over half of the coating mixture and mix well until it starts to set into a thick consistency that can be formed into balls. Form into small balls about 1 inch in diameter.
- Create Green Jello Balls: Repeat the above step for the green jello mixture with the remaining coating mixture.
- Coat the Balls: Roll each jello ball in powdered sugar to coat evenly, ensuring they are not sticky and are well-coated for a festive look.
- Chill and Serve: Place the jello balls on a tray lined with wax paper and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up. Serve chilled as a refreshing holiday treat.
Notes
- Choose your favorite red jello flavor such as strawberry, cherry, or raspberry to customize the taste.
- Crushing the vanilla wafers or graham crackers finely helps the jello balls hold together better.
- Make sure the jello mixtures have cooled but remain pourable to properly bind with the coating mixture.
- Store leftover jello balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- This recipe makes approximately 24 servings, perfect for parties and gatherings.
