Ingredients
Scale
Cookies
- 2 packages (8 oz. or 9 oz. each) sugar wafer cookies
Chocolate Coating
- 1 package (1 lb.) white candy melts or 1 package (24 oz.) white bark coating
- 1 tbsp shortening
Decoration
- Assorted red, green, and white sprinkles (e.g., confetti sprinkles, nonpareils)
Instructions
- Melt the Candy Coating: Combine the white candy melts or bark coating with the shortening in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until the mixture is completely smooth and melted.
- Dip the Wafers: Take each sugar wafer cookie and dip it about three-quarters of the way into the melted candy coating. Allow the excess coating to drip back into the bowl to prevent clumps.
- Add Sprinkles: Immediately after dipping, sprinkle the coated portion with your choice of holiday-themed sprinkles to add festive color and texture.
- Repeat and Set: Continue dipping and decorating the remaining wafers one at a time. Place each coated wafer on wax paper and let them stand at room temperature until the coating is fully set and hardened.
- Store: Once the coating is fully set, store the decorated sugar wafers in an airtight container. They will keep fresh for up to two weeks.
Notes
- Use shortening when melting the candy melts to create a smoother, shinier coating that sets up nicely.
- Work efficiently when dipping and decorating each wafer so the candy coating does not harden before adding sprinkles.
- Room temperature setting is essential for an even, glossy finish without cracking.
- Store cookies between layers of wax paper to prevent sticking.
- These treats are best enjoyed within two weeks for maximum freshness.
