Ingredients
Scale
Crab Mixture
- 1 lb crab meat (fresh, canned, or imitation)
- 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 green onions (finely chopped)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
Coating
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg (beaten)
For Frying
- Oil (for frying; amount as needed)
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients. In a large mixing bowl, mix together the crab meat, softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, finely chopped green onions, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
- Shape Patties. Using your hands, form the crab mixture into small bite-sized balls or patties according to your preference for size and shape.
- Coat Patties. Place the breadcrumbs in a shallow bowl. Dip each crab ball or patty into the beaten egg, ensuring it’s fully coated, then roll it in the breadcrumbs to cover evenly.
- Heat Oil. Preheat a large skillet over medium heat and add enough oil to cover the bottom for shallow frying.
- Fry Patties. Carefully place the coated crab patties into the hot skillet. Fry for 3-4 minutes on each side or until they turn golden brown and develop a crispy exterior.
- Drain Excess Oil. Remove the cooked crab crunchies from the skillet and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb and drain any excess oil.
- Serve Warm. Serve the crab crunchies warm with your favorite dipping sauces, such as cocktail sauce or tartar sauce, for a perfect appetizer or snack experience.
Notes
- Use fresh crab meat for the best flavor, but canned or imitation crab works well too.
- Ensure the cream cheese is softened to make mixing easier and smoother.
- You can add extra spices like paprika or cayenne pepper for a spicy kick.
- For a healthier version, consider baking the patties instead of frying.
- Serve immediately after cooking for the best texture and taste.
