Description

Refreshing and vibrant Dragonfruit Agua Fresca is a naturally hydrating beverage made with ripe dragonfruit, fresh lime juice, and a touch of sugar, blended to smooth perfection. This lightly sweetened, tropical drink is perfect for hot days or as a colorful party refreshment.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe dragonfruits, flesh scooped out
  • 4 cups filtered water
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice
  • 2-4 tablespoons sugar (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dragonfruit: Cut the dragonfruits in half and carefully scoop out the flesh with a spoon. Set aside the smooth, vibrant flesh.
  2. Blend Fruit and Water: Place the dragonfruit flesh and 4 cups of filtered water into a blender. Blend on high speed for 30 to 45 seconds until the mixture is smooth.
  3. Add Lime Juice and Sweetener: Pour in the fresh lime juice and add 2 to 4 tablespoons of sugar according to your sweetness preference. Blend again briefly to combine all ingredients evenly.
  4. Strain the Mixture: For a smoother texture, pour the blended liquid through a fine mesh sieve into a pitcher, using a spoon to press out as much liquid as possible while leaving behind the pulp and seeds.
  5. Chill and Serve: Refrigerate the strained agua fresca for at least 30 minutes to enhance flavor and chill. Serve over ice cubes and garnish with lime wedges or fresh mint leaves for a refreshing presentation.

Notes

  • Adjust sugar to taste or substitute with honey or agave syrup for a natural sweetener alternative.
  • For a fiber-rich version, skip the straining step to retain the dragonfruit pulp.
  • Can be made in advance and stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • Add a splash of sparkling water for a fizzy twist just before serving.
  • Use pink or white dragonfruit depending on availability; both yield delicious results.
