Description

A quick and flavorful Egg Roll Stir Fry featuring ground pork and crisp vegetables tossed in a savory Asian-inspired sauce. This versatile skillet dish captures the essence of classic egg roll flavors without the hassle of frying, ready in just 25 minutes for a delicious weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat

  • 1 lb ground pork (or chicken, turkey, or beef)

Vegetables

  • 2 cups shredded cabbage (or coleslaw mix)
  • 1 medium carrot, julienned or shredded
  • 1/2 cup sliced bell pepper (any color)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Sauce & Seasonings

  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce (optional for sweetness)
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Ground Meat: Heat the sesame oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the ground pork (or your choice of meat) and cook until browned, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks. Drain any excess fat to keep the dish from being greasy.
  2. Cook the Vegetables: Add the chopped onion and garlic to the skillet with the cooked meat. Stir and cook for 2-3 minutes until the onions are soft and fragrant. Then stir in the shredded cabbage, carrots, and sliced bell pepper. Continue stir-frying for about 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
  3. Make the Sauce: While the vegetables cook, whisk together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce (if using), ground ginger, and crushed red pepper flakes in a small bowl to create a flavorful stir-fry sauce.
  4. Combine and Simmer: Pour the sauce over the cooked meat and vegetables in the skillet. Stir well to evenly coat everything and let it cook for another 2-3 minutes to heat through and meld the flavors.
  5. Serve: Garnish the stir fry with chopped green onions and sesame seeds if desired. Serve immediately, either on its own or over steamed rice or noodles for a complete satisfying meal.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground pork with ground chicken, turkey, or beef depending on preference.
  • For a gluten-free option, use tamari instead of soy sauce and omit hoisin or find a gluten-free alternative.
  • If you prefer less heat, omit the crushed red pepper flakes.
  • This stir fry pairs well with steamed jasmine rice or your favorite noodles.
  • Leftovers keep well refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheat nicely in a skillet or microwave.
