Description

These Fig and Goat Cheese Tarts with Honey and Chili Flakes Drizzle combine flaky puff pastry with creamy goat cheese and sweet, juicy figs. Finished with a drizzle of honey and a sprinkle of chili flakes, this Mediterranean-inspired appetizer offers a perfect balance of sweet, savory, and spicy flavors. Ideal for entertaining or a sophisticated snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Puff Pastry and Cheese

  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 6 ounces fresh goat cheese, softened
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Fig and Toppings

  • 8 fresh figs, stems removed and sliced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
  • 2 tablespoons honey, plus more for drizzling
  • ½ teaspoon red chili flakes

Egg Wash

  • 1 large egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pastry: Preheat your oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Slightly roll out the thawed puff pastry and cut it into six equal rectangles. Place these rectangles on the prepared baking sheet.
  2. Score Pastry Borders: Using a sharp knife, lightly score a border around each rectangle, taking care not to cut through the dough completely. This helps the edges puff up when baking.
  3. Prepare Goat Cheese Mixture: In a small bowl, combine softened goat cheese with olive oil, salt, and black pepper. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  4. Assemble Tarts: Evenly spread the goat cheese mixture inside the scored borders of each pastry piece. Arrange the sliced figs over the goat cheese and sprinkle fresh thyme leaves on top.
  5. Apply Egg Wash: Brush the exposed pastry edges with the beaten egg wash to ensure a golden, glossy finish during baking.
  6. Bake: Bake the tarts in the preheated oven for 18 to 22 minutes or until the pastry is puffed and beautifully golden brown.
  7. Finish and Serve: Remove the tarts from the oven. Drizzle honey generously over each tart and sprinkle with red chili flakes for a touch of heat. Serve warm or at room temperature for best flavor.

Notes

  • If fresh figs aren’t available, substitute with dried figs rehydrated in warm water.
  • For added sweetness and depth, drizzle a light amount of balsamic glaze just before serving.
