Ingredients
Scale
Filling
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Rolls
- 10 egg roll wrappers
- 1 egg, beaten (for sealing)
For Frying
- Vegetable oil, for frying (about 2 inches deep)
Optional Toppings
- Powdered sugar
- Cinnamon sugar
- Chocolate sauce
Instructions
- Prepare the filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix thoroughly until the mixture is smooth and creamy, ensuring no lumps remain.
- Assemble the rolls: Place one egg roll wrapper on a clean surface with a corner pointed toward you. Spoon about 1½ tablespoons of the cream cheese mixture into the center of the wrapper. Fold the bottom corner over the filling, then fold in the sides securely to encase the filling. Roll tightly toward the top corner and brush the top corner with beaten egg to seal the edges. Repeat this process with the remaining wrappers and filling.
- Heat the oil: In a deep skillet or pot, pour enough vegetable oil to reach about 2 inches deep. Heat it over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C), ideal for frying the rolls to a perfect golden crispiness.
- Fry the rolls: Carefully add the rolls to the hot oil in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry each roll for 2 to 3 minutes per side, turning gently as needed, until they achieve a golden brown and crispy exterior.
- Drain and serve: Remove the fried rolls from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve warm, optionally dusted with powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, or drizzled with chocolate sauce for enhanced flavor.
Notes
- Add a bit of lemon zest to the cream cheese filling for a fresh and zesty twist.
- These rolls can be prepared ahead of time and frozen before frying; thaw slightly before cooking.
