Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent the cookies from sticking.
- Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and packed brown sugar. Use a mixer to beat the mixture until it is smooth and fluffy, which should take about 2 to 3 minutes.
- Add Eggs and Vanilla: Add the eggs to the butter mixture one at a time, beating well after each addition to fully incorporate them. Stir in the vanilla extract to add rich flavor.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add these dry ingredients into the wet mixture and mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
- Incorporate Mix-ins: Fold in the semisweet chocolate chips and chopped walnuts if using, ensuring an even distribution throughout the dough.
- Form Dough Balls: Drop rounded tablespoons of the cookie dough onto the prepared baking sheet. Space the dough balls about 2 inches apart to allow room for spreading during baking.
