Description

These Philly Cheesesteak Sliders are a delicious twist on the classic sandwich, featuring tender shaved steak, sautéed onions and bell peppers, melted provolone cheese, and a flavorful buttery glaze on soft Hawaiian rolls. Perfect for game day, parties, or a cozy family dinner, these sliders bake to golden perfection with gooey cheese and savory steak in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 yellow onion, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ lb fresh shaved steak (beef or chicken)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Kosher salt and freshly cracked black pepper, to taste
  • 12 Hawaiian rolls
  • 12 slices provolone cheese, thinly sliced

Glaze Ingredients

  • ¼ cup butter, melted
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prep: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
  2. Sauté Vegetables: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook them until they soften and become translucent. Then add the thinly sliced green bell peppers and minced garlic, cooking everything until the vegetables are tender and fragrant. Once done, remove the vegetables from the pan and set them aside.
  3. Cook Steak: In the same skillet, add the fresh shaved steak. Cook it over medium heat, breaking it up with a wooden spoon until it is fully browned. Season the steak with Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, kosher salt, and freshly cracked black pepper to taste. After cooking, remove the steak from the pan and set aside.
  4. Make Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, dried thyme, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce to create a flavorful glaze to brush over the sliders.
  5. Assemble Sliders: Arrange the bottom halves of the Hawaiian rolls in the prepared baking dish. Layer half of the provolone cheese slices over the rolls, then add half of the sautéed vegetables. Spread the cooked steak evenly on top, followed by the remaining provolone cheese slices and the rest of the sautéed vegetables. Place the top halves of the Hawaiian rolls onto the assembled layers. Brush the tops generously with the prepared butter glaze.
  6. Bake: Place the assembled sliders in the preheated oven and bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the rolls turn golden brown and the cheese melts into a bubbly, delicious layer.
  7. Serve: Remove the sliders from the oven, slice them apart, and serve immediately while warm for the best flavor experience.

Notes

  • For an extra kick, add sliced jalapeños or hot sauce to the sautéed vegetables.
  • Can substitute provolone cheese with mozzarella or American cheese for different flavor profiles.
  • Use beef shaved steak for authentic taste or chicken shaved steak for a lighter option.
  • Make sure to not overcook the vegetables; they should remain tender but not mushy.
  • Prepare sliders a few hours in advance and refrigerate before baking to enhance flavors.
