Ingredients
Scale
Protein and Vegetables
- 1 pound (450g) smoked sausage, sliced into 1/4-inch rounds
- 1 medium green cabbage, cored and sliced into thin strips
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 2 green onions, sliced (optional, for garnish)
Seasoning and Oils
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Salt, to taste
- Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Heat the oil: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat to prepare for cooking your ingredients evenly and to build flavor.
- Cook the sausage: Add the sliced smoked sausage to the skillet and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned and slightly crispy on the edges. Then, remove the sausage from the skillet and set aside.
- Sauté onion: In the same skillet, add the sliced onion and cook for about 2 minutes, stirring frequently to soften and develop sweetness.
- Add garlic: Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant, enhancing the base flavor of the stir fry.
- Cook vegetables: Add the sliced cabbage and red bell pepper to the skillet and stir-fry for 5-7 minutes until the vegetables begin to soften but retain a slight crunch.
- Return sausage: Place the browned sausage back into the skillet with the vegetables to combine all main ingredients.
- Season the dish: Add soy sauce, sesame oil, black pepper, and salt to taste. Stir thoroughly to coat all ingredients and blend the flavors.
- Simmer together: Cook everything for an additional 3-4 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and ensuring everything is heated through.
- Garnish and serve: Remove from heat, garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds if desired, then serve hot for a satisfying meal.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, add red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce during the seasoning step.
- You can substitute smoked sausage with kielbasa or any preferred smoked meat sausage.
- Use low-sodium soy sauce to reduce salt content if desired.
- To keep vegetables crispier, avoid overcooking the cabbage and bell pepper.
- This dish pairs well with steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.
