Description

This Sausage and Cheese Bread recipe is a savory, hearty bread perfect for breakfast or a satisfying snack. Combining flavorful sausage with sharp cheddar cheese and aromatic seasonings, this quick bread is easy to prepare and baked to golden perfection. The texture is moist and tender, highlighting the delicious blend of spices, sausage, and melted cheese throughout each slice.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat

  • 1 lb breakfast sausage (or Italian sausage)

Cheese

  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or a blend of your favorite cheeses)

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Wet Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

Garnish (Optional)

  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a loaf pan with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Cook sausage: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the breakfast or Italian sausage until fully browned and cooked through, about 7-10 minutes. Break it up into small crumbles as it cooks. Drain excess fat and set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Mix dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
  4. Combine wet ingredients: In another bowl, beat the eggs and then whisk in the milk and melted butter until combined.
  5. Combine all ingredients: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently just until moistened. Avoid overmixing to keep the bread tender. Fold in the cooked sausage and shredded cheddar cheese evenly throughout the batter.
  6. Bake the bread: Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top. Bake in the preheated oven for about 45–50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean and the bread has a golden brown crust.
  7. Cool and garnish: Allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely. Sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley if desired before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute Italian sausage if breakfast sausage is unavailable.
  • Use a sharp cheddar or a mix of cheeses for extra flavor.
  • Ensure not to overmix the batter to maintain a soft, fluffy texture.
  • This bread is best served warm but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • For a spicier version, add a pinch of red chili flakes or use spicy sausage.
