Description

These Spicy Garlic and Sesame Fries are crispy oven-baked potatoes tossed in a flavorful sauce made from sesame oil, garlic, soy sauce, and chili paste. Perfectly balanced with a hint of sweetness and garnished with toasted sesame seeds and fresh cilantro, these fries offer a deliciously spicy and savory snack or side dish.

Ingredients

Scale

Potatoes

  • 4 large russet potatoes (or your favorite type of potato), cut into fries

Oils and Sauces

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tbsp chili paste or sriracha (adjust to heat preference)
  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup (optional for a touch of sweetness)

Seasonings and Garnishes

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds (toasted, for garnish)
  • 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for extra heat)
  • 1-2 tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped (optional, for garnish)
  • Salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) to prepare for baking the fries.
  2. Prepare the Potatoes: Cut the potatoes into evenly sized fries to ensure uniform cooking.
  3. Toss Fries with Oil and Seasoning: Place the cut fries in a large bowl, toss them with olive oil, salt, and pepper to coat evenly.
  4. Bake the Fries: Spread the fries in a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through until golden and crispy.
  5. Make the Spicy Garlic Sauce: While the fries are baking, mix sesame oil, minced garlic, soy sauce, chili paste or sriracha, and honey (if using) in a small bowl.
  6. Toss Fries in Sauce: Remove the fries from the oven and immediately toss them in the prepared spicy garlic sauce to coat them well.
  7. Add Garnishes: Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds and crushed red pepper flakes over the fries.
  8. Garnish with Cilantro: Add fresh chopped cilantro for color and fresh flavor.
  9. Serve: Serve the fries hot and enjoy their crispy, spicy, and savory flavor.

Notes

  • For gluten-free option, use tamari instead of soy sauce.
  • Adjust the chili paste or sriracha quantity based on your heat preference.
  • Optional honey or maple syrup adds a subtle sweetness to balance the heat.
  • Make sure fries are spread in a single layer on the baking sheet for even crisping.
  • Flipping fries halfway through baking ensures even browning on all sides.
