Description

These Spinach and Cheese Stuffed Twists are a delicious and easy appetizer featuring soft breadstick dough filled with a savory mix of fresh spinach, ricotta, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheeses, seasoned with Italian herbs. Baked until golden and served with marinara sauce, they make a perfect crowd-pleasing snack or party treat.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough and Filling

  • 1 (8 oz) can refrigerated breadstick dough
  • 1 cup fresh spinach, chopped
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning

For Finishing

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Marinara sauce for dipping

Instructions

  1. Prepare Filling: In a medium bowl, combine the chopped fresh spinach, ricotta cheese, shredded mozzarella, grated Parmesan, and Italian seasoning. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated into a creamy filling.
  2. Preheat Oven and Prepare Dough: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Unroll the refrigerated breadstick dough onto a clean surface and separate it into individual strips as indicated on the package.
  3. Fill and Twist: Place about one tablespoon of the spinach and cheese mixture at one end of each dough strip. Carefully twist the dough strip around the filling, ensuring the filling is enclosed within the twists.
  4. Arrange and Brush: Lay the prepared twists on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a lightly greased surface. Brush each twist with the beaten egg to give them a beautiful golden color when baked.
  5. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the twists for 12 to 15 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and the cheese inside has melted thoroughly.
  6. Serve: Remove the twists from the oven and allow them to cool slightly. Serve warm with marinara sauce on the side for dipping.

Notes

  • You can substitute fresh spinach with frozen spinach; just be sure to thaw and thoroughly squeeze out excess moisture before using.
  • For extra flavor, sprinkle some garlic powder or crushed red pepper flakes into the filling mixture.
  • If you prefer a crispier texture, bake the twists for an additional 2-3 minutes but watch closely to prevent burning.
  • These twists can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated, then baked fresh before serving.
  • Ensure the egg wash is applied evenly to achieve a glossy, golden finish.
