Ingredients
Scale
Steak
- 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp olive oil (for cooking steak)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp dried oregano
Bread and Butter
- 2 baguettes (or 4 smaller sub rolls)
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
Cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup shredded provolone cheese
Optional
- Crushed red pepper flakes for added heat
Instructions
- Cook the steak: In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Season the thinly sliced steak with salt, black pepper, and dried oregano. Add the steak to the skillet and cook for 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned and cooked through. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Prepare the garlic butter: In a small bowl, combine the melted unsalted butter with minced garlic and chopped fresh parsley. Mix thoroughly to create a flavorful garlic butter spread.
- Toast the bread: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the baguettes or sub rolls lengthwise. Brush the cut sides evenly with the prepared garlic butter mixture, coating the surface well.
- Add cheese and steak: Sprinkle an even layer of shredded mozzarella and provolone cheeses over both halves of the bread. Then distribute the cooked steak slices evenly on top of the cheese layers.
- Bake: Place the prepared bread halves on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and the bread turns golden and toasted.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and allow to cool for a few minutes. Slice into individual servings and serve warm. Optionally, top with crushed red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
Notes
- You can substitute flank steak with sirloin or any tender cut of your choice.
- For extra flavor, add a sprinkle of crushed red pepper flakes before baking or when serving.
- This recipe works well with sub rolls or ciabatta if baguettes are unavailable.
- Make sure to slice the bread lengthwise carefully to avoid breaking it.
- Leftovers can be reheated in the oven to restore crispiness.
