Ingredients
Scale
Meat Mixture
- 1½ lb ground beef
- 1 (1-oz) packet taco seasoning
- 1 cup salsa
- 1 (8-oz) package Velveeta cheese, cubed
Topping & Assembly
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 Tbsp butter
- 1 tsp taco seasoning
- 1 (12-oz) package Hawaiian rolls
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350ºF (175ºC) to prepare it for baking the assembled sliders later.
- Cook Ground Beef: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until it is no longer pink, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain any excess grease to avoid soggy sliders. Stir in the taco seasoning packet and salsa. Continue cooking for about 5 minutes until most of the liquid has evaporated. Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the cubed Velveeta cheese until melted and fully combined with the taco meat mixture.
- Prepare Rolls: Without separating the Hawaiian rolls, use a serrated knife to slice the entire loaf horizontally. Place the bottom half of the rolls into a 9×13-inch baking dish that has been lightly sprayed with nonstick cooking spray.
- Assemble Sliders: Evenly spread the warm ground beef and cheese mixture over the bottom half of the rolls. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top, then place the top half of the rolls back over the filling to close the sliders.
- Butter Topping: In a small bowl, mix together melted butter and 1 teaspoon of taco seasoning. Brush this flavorful butter mixture over the top of the rolls to add moisture and enhance flavor.
- Bake: Place the assembled sliders in the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes until the tops are golden brown and the sliders are heated through.
- Garnish and Serve: Optionally, sprinkle dried parsley over the baked sliders before serving for a pop of color and added freshness.
Notes
- You can substitute Velveeta cheese with processed cheese or a blend of cream cheese and cheddar for a similar creamy texture.
- For extra heat, add chopped jalapeños into the beef mixture or use spicy salsa.
- These sliders can be assembled ahead of time and refrigerated; just add extra baking time if baking from cold.
- Use Hawaiian rolls for their sweetness which balances the savory taco filling perfectly.
- Leftovers keep well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven maintain their texture best.
